Counselling

Finding help can seem like a daunting task in Japan, but there are a few places to find counsellors. Want to find a counsellor? The links below can help.

CLAIR Mental Health Support

The CLAIR Mental Health Support service is provided free for current participants of the JET Programme. Click here or the image above for more information on how the service works.

International Mental Health Professionals Japan

A professional organization that maintains its own standards for qualification and continuing education for ex-pat counselors and therapists residing in Japan. The homepage has a database, searchable by location and preferred language, that may help find a counselor in your specific area. Be aware, however, that the numbers are still small, and mostly concentrated in urban areas.

Tokyo English Life Line (TELL)

"TELL is dedicated to providing effective support and counseling services to Japan's international community and its increasing mental health needs".

TELL is completely independent of the JET Programme and the Japanese government. It is a volunteer run service provided by a Tokyo-based, non-profit organization. Any English speaker in Japan can use the service via telephone or chat.

Mobal and TELL have partnered so that it's free to call TELL if you're with Mobal.
